Our Journey
2018 will mark our 30th year anniversary! The Alpine Church of Spiritual Living actually began its roots in Alpine, CA in 1988, when the founding minister, Rev. Pauline Beauregard, registered the charter with the State of California as “Unity in the Country”. Rev. Beauregard had been given “seed money” from the Christ Church Unity in San Diego when Rev. Robert L. Stevens was the minister. After an exhaustive search for a church location, Rev. Pauline opted to open a bookstore in the Alpine Creek Town Center, selling metaphysical and other books during the day and holding spiritual classes in the back room in the evenings.
The bookstore operated for four years until Rev. Pauline left the area to pursue other ministerial efforts. The proceeds from the sale of the bookstore were given to a small group of ladies including Lois Cowan, Ann Eidsmoe, MaryAnne Herlihy, Pat Heyser and Jean Tharp. This core group had the drive and determination to start Sunday services in Alpine and in March of 1992 the first service was held in the original Community Center building officiated by Rev. Arthur Hammons of Christ Church Unity in El Cajon. During the following years there have been four different Unity and Religious Science Ministers, with the 5th Religious Science minister, Rev. Gay Beauregard (daughter-in-law of the late Rev. Pauline Beauregard), serving since 2002.
Alpine Church of Spiritual Living is an independent Religious Science Church which mission is “Empowering Lives by Being Unconditional Love in Action.” The banner on each Sunday service program is “Where you are accepted as you are, encouraged to reveal your Light, and experience Love and Joy in the process.” The founder of Religious Science, Ernest Holmes, described its teachings as “The philosophy of Religious Science is nothing new to the world. It is rather a synthesis of the greatest concepts that have ever come to the mind of humankind. The laws of Moses, the love of the Christ, the ethics of Buddha, the morals of Confucius and the deep spiritual realizations of the Hindus all find an exalted place in the philosophy of Religious Science.” Jesus the Christ is the guide and way shower who brought the realization that man is not separate from God, but that God’s unconditional Love lives within each heart and when we live by the Word of God as taught by the Christ we are saved from our own self-imposed sin and limitations. Perhaps the quote from Mahatma Ghandi best sums up the philosophy: “Religions are different roads converging on the same point. What does it matter that we take different roads, so long as we reach the same goal?”
Now that the church has moved into a space located at 2225 W. Victoria Drive, Suite 2, Alpine CA 91901, the history of the church has come full circle. Classes are being conducted throughout the week on a variety of topics and genres from spiritual teachings to dance and exercise classes. If you have an interest in utilizing the space for a workshop or meeting, please phone the church office. Rev. Gay is also available to perform weddings, memorials and other ceremonies and counseling services.
